We are about to embark on creating artwork for your children’s book. Every great project begins with a clear intention, a story and a concept you are passionate about.

While you don’t have to have all the details perfectly drawn up, I do need an outline to help guide me in filling the picture in before we begin, so the core values of what you are looking for are clearly woven into every detail from project start.

Please take your time in filling out the questionnaire below - you might want to type your answers on a .pages or word doc first before submitting so that no technology/submission issues lose your valuable content.

How many characters are in your book and where does it take place?

E.g The book has two main characters and 6 sub-characters that feature. It takes place in one house OR it takes place across a country landscape

Can you give an estimate on the following details?

How many pages do you expect your book to be roughly? Can you send a semi or complete manuscript to me? Have you considered the size of your book - A5 etc? Have you considered the material of your book - board, paperback or hardcover? How do you plan to publish your book? Do you have an estimate on how many copies will be printed/sold?

How would you describe the style of illustration you are wanting using the descriptions below?

Modern or vintage? Flat tones or textured? Mixed Media or single medium? Bold & bright or Soft & whimsical? Sophisticated and youthful or Child-like? Any other words you would like to use to describe.

Do you have a proposed time for the launch of your book?

This may influence timelines/deadlines

What colours or colour palette have you considered for your project?  What feeling do you want the colour palette to convey?

E.g Autumn or earthy tones - brown, rust, olive green, red or burgundy.  The colour palette should feel rich and warm but contemporary.

Are there any particular design styles of illustration or characteristics that you would like to avoid and why?

Eg. No script fonts or botanicals

Who is your ideal target audience?

Gender specific? Age group? What kind of content do they enjoy/consume? Do they use social media to purchase from you or be more informed by you? Are they on a budget or available to make larger investments?
